What to Expect?

How long is the first appointment?

Your first appointment will last about 1 hour. You may arrive 15 or 20 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete paper work or you may request that any initial documents be forwarded to you in advance via email. You may scan and return them or bring the completed questionnaires with you to your first appointment.

May I attend an assessment appointment or receive treatment, if I am under 18 years of age?

Typically parents or guardians attend the initial assessment appointment. Thereafter, you may receive treatment with the advanced written permission of parents or guardians.

Is parking available?

Chicago: Parking is available on the lower level of our downtown Chicago clinic with the garage door entrance located on Chicago Avenue (just east of the 737 entrance). We validate parking to reduce cost but a $17.00 charge for two hours or a $19.00 charge for four hours should be expected. There is less expensive metered parking and garage parking in the area. The closest L-stop at Chicago Avenue, is located two blocks from our office and the Michigan Avenue bus stop at Chicago Avenue is one block from 737’s front door.

Northbrook: Open parking lots are available without charge to all our Northbrook Clinic guests.

Champaign-Urbana: Metered parking and some street parking is available for our Champaign-Urbana guests but may be limited at times given certain nearby University events.

How much does treatment cost?

The cost of services varies depending on the type of service received, the provider that you see, and the length of the appointment. You will be informed of the cost of the first appointment before attending. At your first appointment you may meet with a client care specialist to learn about the costs associated with any other services that will be recommended for you. Payments may be made via cash, check or credit card at the time services are received.

Does ASCEND accept insurance?

ASCEND is enrolled as a preferred provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Insurance policies may cover a portion of the cost of treatment but it is vital that you check with your insurance carrier to learn about your policy to learn about co-pays, policy limits, deductibles and services covered, etc. See our Insurance page.

May I receive care while attending college or while traveling?

Yes. Remote services may be provided via HIPPA compliant video conferencing. However, some conditions may pose medical or emotional risk and may not be best treated by remote services. We are happy to discuss these options with you.

How long does treatment last?

All treatment is individualized at ASCEND and is adjusted continually to fit the clients needs over time. Clients and families are reminded that recovery typically occurs gradually over a longer period of time. Clients are not required to commit to any particular length of time in treatment.

May I complete an intake evaluation by phone or video conference?

Yes. Many hospitals and residential facilities ask their patients to complete an assessment and to arrange for follow-up care prior to discharge. We are happy to conduct an evaluation by phone or video conference and to coordinate transition of care given your written request.
