Aaron Godwin, MM, DMA
Clinical Behavioral Health Intern

Aaron Godwin, is an advanced standing clinical social work intern at Ascend. He is currently completing his Master of Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a focus on clinical mental health. Aaron holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, a Master of Music degree (both of U of I), a Bachelor of Music degree, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and political science from the University of Central Florida. Aaron’s research thus far has been grounded in queer and gender theory to study musical theatre performance practices. Aaron’s current research is focused on psychoeducation for performing arts educators.

Aaron has worked extensively with young adults and adolescents, both as an academic advisor and as a site coordinator for a federally funded research project testing the efficacy of an evidence-based intervention focused on increasing matriculation and completion rates of post-secondary education for students in the child welfare system. Aaron enjoys working with folks of all ages, with a special interest in working with the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent populations and addressing religious trauma. He takes a person-in-environment, strengths-based approach with clients and uses psychodynamic theory and DBT in his practice.
